Diagnosis of TB
Just came across this article, after reading some comments in the Lancet about the Ferrara et al (2006). Lancet; 367:1328-34 paper. The article is the response of Oxford Immunotech to the NICE guidelines of TB. They make a useful point about the savings of costs to the NHS in terms of TB specialist nurse training. I would say that we cannot use a blood test alone in the investigation of TB, either for contact tracing or latent disease, especially in children. Our local lab may look at this in time, especially if we could offer both assays locally.
