The isolate was turned around in 6 hours. I don't suggest the VITEK2 is used for all specimens, but for this it was very useful. We have had very good results with colistin, and many studies have suggested the benefits of colistin and rifmapacin or an carbapanem. Have you tested for colistin?
MDR acinetobacter baumanii
MDR Acinetobacter baumanii is a problem in our ICU esp from tracheal aspirates. My most recent isolate is from the peritoneal fliud of a patient post ERCP. This isolate was I to cefoperazone sulbactum and Imipenam and S to only tigecycline (Disk diffusion). Patient is on Imipenam and tigecycline. Despite all care (medical + surgical), the patient is still running fever.....
How is your experience with Vitek 2 in terms of results and turn around time ? we are planning to buy this instrument
