Arthus Reaction

  • This refers a type III, immune complex mediated hypersensitivity reaction that occurs following the intradermal injection of antigen in the presence of a high level of circulating antibody. Within 4-12 hours the area becomes red and oedematous.
  • Mediated by IgG, IgA.
  • May occur after re-vaccination.
