  • Responsible for an STD (CHANCROID), prevelance in SE Asia & Africa.
  • Painful penile ulcer (SOFT CHANCRE) and inguinal lymphadenitis.
  • Small GNBs can be seen in swabs or aspirates from LNs.
    • Shoal of fish on the Gm stain.
  • ?facilitated the transmission of HIV in the tropics.
  • Rx: azithromycin, erythro, cipro, ceftrioxone.
  • (R) to sulphonamides, trim, tetracyclines.
  • Treatmement failures are much more likely in concurrent HIV.
